5G’s first specification officially signed off

3GPP, the organisation that governs cellular standards, has officially signed off the first 5G spec.

It is expected that 5G will be a reality by 2019. 5G will be brought to commercial networks and devices in smartphones and other form factors. Continuing developing 5G technologies with connect new industries and enable new user experiences.

The announcement was made following a meeting of industry leaders in Lisbon. Now these companies, and others, can ensure they are developing and rolling out solutions which meet the specification.

In February 2017, Industry leader announced their support of fast pacing the development of 5G, this announcement is a result of their efforts.
